Italian Lakes: The Greenway Walks - Part 1
The Greenway, a dream walk between Colonno and Cadenabbia, it covers only 10kl but along there is a universe of fascinating views which let you breathe the soul and date back to the splendour of the past letting us dig into our origins.
The Greenway is all this in a handful of kilometres from Tamezzina, from Colonno to Sala Comacina, proceeding to Ossuccio, Lenno, Tremezzo, Mezzegra until Cadennabbia di Griante: this Greenway goes along the lake, then coming out gently on the top of the residential areas of the seven small gems. Step by step, covering the whole length for 3and a half hours, it will not be difficult to discover the different depths of this territory, able to switch from rural scenarios to historical hamlets, from lacustrine sight to villas and gardens without comparison.
The Greenway is not just a one-day excursion: the path is inserted in a network where it is given people the possibility to stop and restart the path from the preferred point, thanks to different contact points with the road network and mainly with the means of transport, either buses or boats for transport.
FROM COLONNO TO SALA COMACINA
Firstly, do not worry because there are signs and indications on the path: from the metal plates with the logo to the street signs in stone, from the signs even giving distance still left to be covered. To start the walk it is necessary to enter Colonno from South, taking via Capella which goes up on the left and follows “Greenway of the lake”. The walk is through the historical centre of the town, the main square and the bridge on the stream Pessetta before starting the way to Sala Comacina, along the old road Regina. Here it is possible to start breathing in the middle of nature walking among terraced lots and small olive tree groves. The little Chapel of San Rocco rings the bell and from here it is possible to descend a flight of steps to reach the medieval historical centre and the little harbour: we have now reached Sala Comacina.
A stroke of luck for poets, painters and artists, for the ones arriving at Sala Comacina, driving the comfortable provincial road of disembarking the steamer of the Lariana Company, it is difficult to get an idea of the original aspects of this town in the past centuries: the old village needs looking for below the parish of San Bartolomeo.
